One of the great debates in the modified car world, is the DIY’er vs. a shop built car. Sure, some shops have come up with absolutely beautiful cars with insane attention to detail for their customers. The owner of the car drops it off as one thing, and picks it up as another, never once getting their hands dirty. Pretty simple for the owner, but expensive. In addition, not everyone was born to work on cars. Some have hectic schedules. Some lack the patience and experience. Some don’t have a spot to do it. Some just don’t want to be bothered with all the hassles. And that’s all well and good. Now what about the other side of the story? The Do-It-Yourself guy. The guy that does the research, buys his supplies, and works through the problems and hassles with what he has available to him. He may drive the car around with different color panels for awhile. Or maybe missing some panels completely. But he gets the satisfaction of knowing everything that went into making the car what it is in the end. Knowing every time someone stops in their tracks to look, it was because of something they did. I am fortunate to know one of these guys and his name is Matt Zwilling .

Having been to several international auto shows in the country, I have to say that Philadelphia is one of the worst. Unfortunately for me, it is also one of the closest. As such, I can only report on the newest creations that are presented. While 95% of the show is a glorified showroom, there are a few companies that actually show some promising exotics.
The biggest hit in Philadelphia is most certainly the Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing…

Browsing through Flickr tonight and stumbled across some awesome shots from one photographer. If you are home and bored on a Saturday night there is nothing better to do than browse through Flickr.
Check these shots out — some dope shots and some dope cars.

After some delay, for whatever reason, I was able to get January’s PVW issue. Only a few weeks late in store, not too shabby. This issue has some significance to myself, as well as WFSU.
This issue marks a year since WFSU’s group feature in the mag. Something as a group we were and continue to be proud of, especially seeing it was just about a year prior to the feature that WFSU was established. And unfortunately I can’t say the rest of ‘09 was a good year for myself, or at least as good as ‘08 was leading up to the feature.
Also it was only after flipping through the mag that I realized it was 5 years ago January that I bought one of my first and also my favorite PVW issues. The issue featured Dan Koenig’s killer Mk1, which was a big influence on how I thought about VW’s.
After a disappointing year for myself. To put it simply, shit didn’t go right. I have some optimistic goals for myself and my Rabbit this year. Look for a post on it in the next few weeks.
Cheers,
Mike aka Shake
